New Airport at Greater Noida; Jewar farmers meet Chief Minister Yogi
Lucknow.
Clearing the deck for the construction of an international Greenfield airport in Jewar, a delegation of farmers from the Greater Noida and adjoining areas met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence here and handed him agreement letters stating that that a majority of the farmers were ready to allow government to a acquire land after being paid the required compensation.
This allows the government to go ahead with the acquisition of the land for construction of airport.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath told the delegation that the farmers have always played a key role in the development of the state and their contribution in the construction of an international Greenfield airport at Jewar will be written in golden letters.
“On the part of the government we will ensure that farmers get the compensation as agreed and in case there is rehabilitation, the farmers will also get the rehabilitation package,” the CM said.
This delegation of farmers was led by ruling party MP from Jewar Dhirendra Singh Rohi. This meeting will be a big boost for the government as a section of farmers had staged protest saying they will not give land to the government for construction of Jewar airport because they were not getting compensation. The opposition parties had tried to make it a big issue saying government was not serious in construction of airport there.
The protests had started after the DPR and Techno-Economics Feasibility Report (TEFR) of this project were prepared. The said report was prepared by Price Water House Consultant Company. As per this report 1441 hectare of land spread over in eight villages will be acquired. The proposed airport will be built at PPP model at a cost of Rs 15754 crore.
The Government has already earmarked Rs 130 crore for land acquisition. The proposed airport will have two run ways and will have a capacity to handle 70 million passengers annually. The airport, 72 km away from IGIA Airport in Delhi, is expected to give a major boost to tourism at Mathura, Vrindavan and Agra.
Chairman Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority Dr Prabhat Kumar and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister SP Goyal were present on this occasion. In 2017, Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority has notified 3,000 hectares of land for a world-class industrial airport.

Air India Rapidly Running Out of Fuel
Air India Group:
- Air India, Air India Express and Alliance Air
- Combined fleet of 161 aircraft,
- Operates 475 flights a day serving 78 domestic and 44 international destinations.
It is a majestic airline which flies long and ultra-long, that is, flights up to 16 hours duration, but its financial status indicate a hopeless situation.
Against the backdrop of rising fuel prices, the three oil companies - Indian Oil Corp, Bharat Petroleum Ltd and Hindustan Petroleum Ltd- have asked Air India to clear their dues towards daily billing.
The government-run Air India lifts ATF mainly from the three oil marketing firms - also run by the government- worth over Rs 6000 million a month on an average.
Air India, as usual, faces cash crunch and can not even pay salaries to its staff on time. With a debt pile of over Rs 5,00,000 million, no buyer in the world is keen to invest in Air India. To meet its working capital requirements, Air India continues to seek short-term borrowings. It has already borrowed Rs 62,500 million from various banks between September and March quarters last fiscal for its day-to-day capital needs.
Air India is still waiting for a Rs 9800 million in supplementary grants towards equity infusion for which the government had sought Parliament's approval. However, it did receive an equity infusion of Rs 6500 million up to June.
With an organisation like Air India staying afloat on such life-support systems alone, unable to pay its fuel bills, unable to pay staff salaries on time, unable to prevent its planes getting grounded due to lack of spares, industry observers can now see the writings on the wall clearly. Air India may close down soon as it is rapidly running out of 'fuel'.
Safety audit of all scheduled airlines and airports ordered
September 21, 2018
India's Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu had to order a safety audit of all scheduled airlines and airports amid recent such incidents related to safety of passengers. This development assumes more significance since the minister has also ordered a probe into the last Jet Airways flight incident, which is being investigated by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).
The minister has directed officials concerned to prepare a comprehensive safety audit plan, which involves assessment of safety parameters of all scheduled airlines, aerodromes, flying training schools and MROs (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Organisations) immediately. The Minister has further directed that safety audit should be commenced forthwith and a report to this effect should be submitted for his perusal within 30 days.
In August, the DGCA had conducted a comprehensive financial audit of Air India and Jet Airways along with special safety audit of scheduled commuter airlines Air Deccan and Air Odisha. Read More

Jet Airways Flight Returns To Mumbai After Loss in Cabin Pressure
Jet Airways Flight 9W 697 from Mumbai to Jaipur with 166 passengers on board had to turn back shortly after take-off. Reason : Loss of cabin pressure.
Several passengers complained of headache. Over 30 passengers have suffered ear and nose-bleed.
The crew seemed to forget to select a switch that helps maintain cabin air pressure.
"During climb, the crew forgot to select a bleed switch due to which cabin pressurisation could not be maintained," a Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) officer told news agency PTI. In aviation circles, this is regarded as a rare mistake by the crew. Loss of cabin pressurization is a serious emergency condition in an aircraft flying at cruising altitude as high as 30000 ft.
As per Jet Airways spokesperson, "All the affected passengers are being attended to by doctors at the airport in Mumbai. First aid was administered to the few guests who complained of ear pain, bleeding nose. We will arrange alternate flights for the passengers.
The crew has been taken off duty and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has started a probe into how the incident happened, the DGCA said.
